HOUSTON - The University of Houston softball team (32-14, 13-2 C-USA) returns to conference play after its bye weekend and will take on UCF (32-18, 8-7 C-USA) in a pivotal weekend series.
"Every series that we have from here on out is do or die," head coach Kyla Holas said. "It will determine where we end up as far as seeding for the conference tournament and regional possibilities. We have to make sure that we stay focused and set our mind set into achieving our goals."
The Cougars have won 25 of their last 33 games. Five of the eight setbacks during the streak have come against Top 25 opponents. In fact, 11 of Houston's 14 losses this season have come to teams that are ranked with five of those nine losses coming by a single run.
UCF won two of three games last weekend against UAB and is in sole possession of third place in the league standings after being chosen to finish last in the C-USA preseason poll.
"You have two very similar teams that rely on solid pitching and situational hitting," Holas said. "UCF was plagued by injuries last season and it wasn't a true indication of how good of a program they have built. We have to make sure that we take care of our business and want it more at the end of the game."
All three games of the UCF series will have live stats available on UHCougars.com via GameTracker.
