LAFAYETTE, La. - Melissa Verde went 4-for-4 with a pair of three-run home runs to lift No. 21 Louisiana-Lafayette to a 14-0 victory in five innings over the University of Houston softball team Wednesday evening in game two of a doubleheader at Lamson Park on the ULL campus.
Verde put the Ragin' Cajuns (37-12) ahead 3-0 in the first inning, ripping three-run blast to right centerfield. Holly Tankersley and Desi Chatman set the table for Verde with a pair of walks.
Verde cranked her second homer of the game in the second inning to chase UH starter Barbie Love from the game and cap a six-run frame to give ULL a 9-0 advantage.
The Ragin' Cajuns tacked on four runs in the third inning and added another run in the fourth inning for the final margin of 14-0. Codi Runyan hit solo homers in both frames.
Jessica Valis provided Houston's (32-14) only hit on an infield single in the third inning. The Cougars loaded the bases in the fourth inning, but Laurie Wagner popped up to end the threat.
Houston returns to the friendly confines of the Cougar Softball Stadium with a Conference USA weekend series against UCF. First pitch of Saturday's doubleheader is slated for 1pm. Before the game the Cougars

The second game of this afternoon's doubleheader was the sixth all-time meeting between Houston and Louisiana-Lafayette on the softball diamond ...
