DALLAS - University of Houston junior guard Tye Jackson (Houston, Texas/Westfield HS/Purdue) was named to the All-Conference USA First Team, the league office announced Tuesday.
Jackson, who leads C-USA's in scoring (21.8 ppg) and ranks seventh nationally, earned first-team honors for the second-straight year. She was named to the watch lists for both the Naismith Trophy and Wooden Award Preseason Watch Lists and was also a preseason all-league selection.
Joining Jackson on the first team was Lauren Neaves (Rice), Jillian Robbins (Tulsa), Carmen Guzman (UAB) and Jami Montagnino (Tulane).
She is the only player in C-USA to rank among the top-15 in scoring (21.8/1st), rebounding (6.8/12th), assists (4.15/6th) and steals (2.1/9th). Jackson has scored 10 or more points in each of her 20 starts with 14 20-plus point games, two games with 30 or more points and seven double-doubles. Her season-best of 31 came against East Carolina (Jan. 10). She also ranks 100th nationally in assists per game (4.2) and 36th in three-point field goals per game (2.4).
Jackson missed the season's first six games due to an injury, returning to action just 20 days after undergoing knee surgery.
The Cougars (8-18) play the Marshall Thundering Herd at 1 p.m. CST Thursday, in the opening game of the 2007 Conference USA Women's Basketball Championship, presented by Aèropostale, at the Reynolds Center in Tulsa.
