Cougars Look For Season Sweep Of Tulsa Thursday ...
• The University of Houston women's basketball team looks to snap a four-game skid and earn the season sweep over Tulsa, Thursday at 7 p.m. CST in the Reynolds Center. Tulsa will also play host to the 2007 Conference USA Women's Basketball Championship, presented by Aéropostale from March 1-4.
• Both teams are struggling with Houston dropping its last four games and Tulsa has lost four of six.
• After a 63-51 loss against Southern Miss Sunday, Houston sits at 7-15, 4-8 Conference USA while Tulsa is 9-15, 4-8 C-USA.
• The Cougars are on a season-long four-game road swing from Feb. 9 until Feb. 17, traveling to UCF, Southern Miss, Tulsa and SMU.
• The regular season closes out at home this year, with Memphis and UAB on Feb. 22 and 24, respectively.
• Houston will suit up seven players for the rest of the season after losing Maya Onikute to academics.
• UH has struggled away from Hofheinz Pavilion this season, winless in 11 road games, averaging just 52.7 ppg and shooting 32.7%. At home, the Cougars average 71.8 ppg and shoot 39.3%.
• The Cougars were held winless on the road during the 1998-99 season, going 0-12 in games away from Houston. That season, head coach Joe Curl's first, ended with a 5-22 record. UH has finished with just one road win twice (1999-2000, 1996-97).
• Against SMU on Jan. 27, UH set a pair of C-USA offensive rebounding records. The Cougars tied their own previous all-games record for most total rebounds (68) and set the mark for most offensive boards (36) in a game. Houston also finished that game with four players earning double doubles. While research is not complete, it appears UH is the first women's basketball teams to achieve that feat.
• The Cougars probable starting five is: Alona Obaze (5-5/G), Tye Jackson (5-10/G), Whitney James (5-10/F), Sunshine Misa-Uli (5-11/F) and Sha'Quaylon McKinney (6-3/C).
• Jackson (21.9 ppg) is UH's leading scorer, and would lead C-USA in scoring and rank seventh nationally if she had appeared in 75% of UH's games. She has scored 10 or more points in each of her 14 starts with eight 20-plus point games, two games with 30 or more points and six double-doubles. Her season-best of 31 came against East Carolina (Jan. 10).
• James has stepped up her play in the last five games, averaging 10.6 ppg and 9.2 rpg. She had her two double doubles in the past six games.
• Sunshine Misa-Uli has also had a strong showing over the past five games, averaging 8.8 ppg and 8.8 rpg.
• Sha'Quaylon McKinney has come out of nowhere in the past five games, averaging 7.8 ppg and 8.2 rpg.
