Women's Basketball Opens Season Friday Against Texas Southern

HOUSTON - The University of Houston women's basketball team kicks off the 2007-08 season at 7 p.m. CST Friday against Texas Southern on Guy V. Lewis Court at Hofheinz Pavilion.

Tip off is 5:30 p.m. Central.

Season ticket packages start at $50 with single-game tickets pricing starting at $5. Both are on sale now at the UH Athletics Ticket Office.

The game will be webcast live via UHCougars.com All-Access site. Live audio and statistics are also available at the Web site.

STORYLINES

Houston is 24-8 all-time in season openers.
UH and TSU faced off in the 1996 season opener, with UH winning 86-54.
The Cougars and Tigers have not faced each other since Feb. 19, 2007.
UH leads the all-time series 11-1.
TSU's lone win in the series came on Dec. 15, 1981 when they knocked off the Cougars 74-43 at Hofheinz Pavilion.
Houston head coach Joe Curl, entering his 10th season with the Cougars, suffered a heart attack after returning from a recruiting trip on Oct. 27. He is out indefinitely while he recovers. Assistant coach Danny Hughes has been named the interim head coach.
Senior guard Tye Jackson was named the Conference USA Preaseason Player of the Year. Jackson, who averaged 22.5 pgg in 2006-07, in the nation's third-leading returning scorer and a two-time First-Team All-C-USA selection.
Senior guard Twiggy McIntyre will make her UH debut against TSU. McIntyre, a transfer from Kansas State, last played in the 2006 WNIT Championship Game (03/22/06), scoring 16 points to help lead KState to a win over Marquette.
UH will likely start a pair of freshman (Cobilyn Hill, Courtney Taylor).
