Tye Jackson Named C-USA Co-Player Of The Week

HOUSTON - University of Houston women's basketball player Tye Jackson (Houston, Texas/Westfield HS/Purdue) was named Conference USA Co-Player of the Week Monday, after leading the Cougars to a pair of wins over Tulsa and SMU this past weekend.
Jackson, a junior guard and All-America candidate, averaged a double-double this past weekend as UH extended its home winning streak to six games. She shares the weekly award, the second of her career, with Rice's Lauren Neaves.
She opened up the weekend with 24 points and a career-high 12 rebounds against the Golden Hurricane. In the SMU game, Jackson finished 21 points and 10 rebounds, hitting 10-12 from the charity stripe. She also averaged 4.5 assists and 3.0 steals per game for the week. Jackson has four double-doubles this season and seven for her career.
Against SMU, the Cougars set C-USA single-game records for most rebounds (68) and most offensive rebounds (36). UH also had four players finish with a double-double.
The Cougars (7-11, 4-4 C-USA) complete a four-game homestand this weekend facing off on Thursday with Tulane before taking on UTEP next Saturday. Tipoffs are scheduled for 7 p.m. CST and 2 p.m., respectively. UTEP (16-3, 5-2 C-USA) sits in second place in the league standings while Tulane (16-4, 5-2 C-USA) is third.
