HOUSTON, Texas - For the second consecutive week a University of Houston victory equated into an honor for one of its players, as this time sophomore kicker Ben Bell was named the Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Week. Both Kevin Kolb and Marquay Love were honored last week.
After not seeing any action last week, Bell stepped in for an injured T.J. Lawrence and nailed all six of his extra points as well as a 38-yard field in the Cougars' 45-7 win over Tulane. A 2005 member of the Conference USA All-Freshman Team, Bell was the Cougars' primary placekicker last season, finishing with 61 total points. He converted 37-of-39 PATs and eight-of-12 field-goal attempts last season.
