Houston - Week Three began for the University of Houston, as the Cougars held a spirited workout this afternoon under blazing August skies in the Bayou City. The Cougars are set to have their first two-a-day practices tomorrow, working out at 9 am and then returning to the field at 2:20 pm.
Entering his fourth season at the helm of the Houston program, UH head coach Art Briles likes the progress his squad has made since the first day of camp but knows there is still work to be done.
"(Progress) is hard to gauge in two-a-days and fall camp," said Briles, "because you are out here quite a bit of time. It is easy to convince yourself of one thing or another because you are not getting (plays) on video against an opponent or high-paced speed.
"We are where we need to be right now. Now, where we want to be, I don't think so. We're right on track."
Houston has less than three weeks of practice before kicking off the season on September 2 at Rice. The Cougars then begin a three-game home stand with Tulane (Sept. 9), Grambling State (Sept. 16) and Oklahoma State (Sept. 23) coming to John O'Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium.
