Cougars Sign Hylete Young, Along With Jason and Justin Perez

Houston - University of Houston head track and field coach Leroy Burrell announced that Hylete Young of Port Arthur Memorial, along with Jason and Justin Perez on Klein Forest High School have signed to compete with the Cougars in 2006-07.
Young is a state qualifier in the girl's triple jump after a second-place finish at the Region III-5A Championships with a leap of 38-11.50. She also registered the third-best long jump at the Regional with a mark of 18-10.75. Young is tied for second among State leaders in the long jump with a season-best leap of 19-3.50. She also was the District 22-5A champion in the 200 meters with a time of 25.18 seconds, and ran on Port Arthur Memorial's third-place 400-meter relay team that finished with a time of 48.95 seconds at the district meet.
Jason Perez was the Region II-5A champion in the three-meter hurdles with a time of 37.67 seconds. He also was a member of Klein Forest's 1600-meter relay team that was the regional champions with a time of 3:18.38. He has the State's second-fastest time in the 300-meter hurdles this season with 37.13 seconds. Jason also was the District 14-5A champion in the 800 meters with a time of 1:55.98.
Justin Perez was the runner-up in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 9:42.01, and finished fourth in the 1600-meter run at the District 14-5A Championships with a time of 4:27.77 seconds.
