Pozdniakova Named C-USA Freshman Diver of the Year

HOUSTON - University of Houston freshman Anastasia Pozdniakova recently was honored as the Conference USA Freshman Diver of the Year.
The recipients were selected by a vote of the C-USA swimming and diving head coaches.
Pozdniakova, a native of Elektrostal, Russia, enjoyed tremendous during her first collegiate season in 2005-06 after sitting out a year ago with a redshirt. She finished second in all three diving events at the C-USA Championship in late February, joining teammate Tania Cagnotto as the only divers to place among the Top Three in all events.
A two-time C-USA Diver of the Week honoree, Pozdaniakova also finished among the Top Six leaders on the 1- and 3-meter springboards during the NCAA Zone D meet.
She joined another award-winning group of Cougar divers this season. Freshman Tania Cagnotto was named the C-USA Diver of the Year and C-USA Diver of the Meet earlier this season, while diving head coach Jane Figueiredo was named the league's Diving Coach of the Year for the fifth consecutive season.
SMU's Petra Klosova was recognized as the C-USA Freshman Swimmer of the Year.
