IRVING - Kami Miller picked up Conference USA Women's Tennis Player of the Week award Tuesday afternoon as announced by the league's office. It's the first award for Miller this season.
Miller sparked the Cougars to a 3-0 weekend and aided Houston in completing its first undefeated season at home since the 1989-90 season. Houston is 26-2 at home over the last two seasons since John Severance has taken over as head coach.
In the process, the Glendale, Ariz., native moved into No. 7 all-time in career singles victories and has compiled a four-year record of 95-35 in singles action. She is currently two wins shy of moving past Susanne Anderson (1994-98) into the No. 6 position on the UH charts.
Miller has won eight consecutive singles matches dating back to March 18 and dropped only six games over the weekend in the No. 4 singles spot. In her 6-1, 6-3 win over Arkansas State, Miller clinched the match over the Indians, securing the unbeaten season at home for the Cougars.
Houston completed the regular season 19-4. The 19 victories are the most in the regular season since the 1989-90 season.
The Cougars are currently preparing for the C-USA Championships that begin on Thursday, April 20th and being hosted by SMU. Seedings for the championships will be announced at a later date.
