Track and Field Signs Nine for 2007-08 Season

HOUSTON - University of Houston track and field head coach Leroy Burrell announced the addition of five women to the track and field team. Devin Bailey, Kiara Pulliam, Kalyn Floyd, Candyce Cross, and Charlissa Foster will join the team for the 2007-08 season. The team also added four men to the team. John Harvey, William Krokey and Kevin Reagan will compete for the Cougars next season.
Bailey (Coppell, Texas/Coppell) was the USATF Regional Champion in the 800 meters and finished fifth at State in the 400 meters with a time of 56.52. She was also third in the 800 meters at the USA Junior Olympics; it was her first time at the competition. Bailey will also be a member of the UH Honors College. She is coached by Roxanne Farris.
Pulliam (Louise, Texas/Louise) is the 1A State Champion in the shot put and holds a personal record of 44-11.50. Pulliam is coached by Vonnie Branch.
Floyd (Houston, Texas/Hastings) is the younger sister of UH senior All-American Ebonie Floyd. She holds personal bests of 24.62 in the 200 meters and 53.5 in the 400 meters. Her father, Stanley, was a track star at Houston and was the 1982 NCAA 100 meter champion and the 1982 NCAA 60 meter runner-up. Her mother, Delissa, finished fifth in the 800 meters at the 1988 Olympics and was a nine-time National Champion and 12-time All-American at Tennessee. Her sister, Ebonie, is a Cougar record holder and a Conference USA Champion. Floyd is coached by Jammaye Chapman.
Cross (Missouri City, Texas/Thurgood Marshall) is a 200 and 400 meter runner. She finished third in District in the 400 meters and is a two-time State Champion in the 4x400 meter relay. Her 4x400 meter relay team's time of 3:40.05 was the third fastest in the nation last year. Cross has a personal best 24.54 in the 200 meters and her school finished second in the state last year. Her father, Tyrone, also ran track in college. She is coached by Benita Smith.
Foster (Cameron, Texas/Cameron Yoe) is a three-time district and regional champion in the shot put and discus. She was the state runner-up in both the shot put and discus in 2006 and was the 2005 state champion in the discus. Foster has personal best throws of 160-0 in the discus and 45-10.5 in the shot put. She is coached by Linda Richter and Coach White.
Harvey (Shreveport, La.) is a sprinter from Barton County Junior College. He has personal bests of 10.44 in the 100 meters and 21.2 in the 200 meters.
Krokey (Woodstock, Ga.) will join the team as a thrower. He has marks of 207.07 in the hammer throw and 64-11.5 in the weight throw. His hammer throw was the ninth best throw in the nation. He will also be a member of the honors college.
Reagan (Convington, Texas) is a high jumper. He holds a personal record of 6'10" and was the 1A State Champion.
Brown (Kingwood, Texas) is a pole-vaulter. He participated in Regionals last year and has a personal best time of 15'10".
The Cougars open the 2007 season at the Arkansas Invitational Jan. 13, 2007, in Fayetteville, Arkansas. UH will host five home meets during the indoor season beginning with the Leonard Hilton Memorial on Jan. 19, 2007.
