The Spotlight's Bright and Defensive End Phillip Hunt Relishes in its Beam
Houston - Phillip Hunt, also known as "P. Hunt," number 53 for the Cougars, is excited about the team's 4-0 status and is anxiously awaiting more wins.
A Fort Worth, Texas native, Hunt began his career in Pee Wee league football at the young age of 10. Both his mother and coach are two of the people who Hint attributes most of his success.
"Both my mother and coach taught me to always give 110 percent," said Hunt while thinking back some 10 years ago. "That is the thing that sticks out to me the most about my young football training."
Upon approaching his collegiate career, Hunt received offers from Iowa, Tulsa, Arkansas State and Baylor, yet chose UH after merely one visit and little convincing.
"It just felt like home to me," Hunt said in response to inquiries about his choice to attend UH.
"I've been a part of the team since 2004, but this season is different because the team has a lot of useful weapons- players with overall better experience and talent and a lot of senior leadership," Hunt said.
Due to his exposure to the "Cotton Bowl Classic," Hunt had waited for the day to play the Grambling State University Tigers, yet when asked for his take on their victory against the team, he confidently responded with a light head shake saying that he and his teammates felt no threat against the team.
"Winning is the main objective in football," Hunt said, "and I strive for it during every game."
Out of four games played, the laid back, smooth talking 6-2 / 250 pound player has eight tackles and four assists for a total of 12. He can be found catching up on school or sleeping when he is not on the field.
