Houston wins 12 Events at Boise State Athletes Invitational

Nampa, Idaho - The University of Houston men's and women's track and field teams won 12 events at the Boise State Athletes Invitational in Nampa, Idaho on Saturday, January 28.
The women's team won seven different events with junior sprinter LaDedra Guy winning both the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes and ran on Houston's winning 4x400-meter relay. Keisha Howard also ran on the winning relay team and was the winner the women's 400-meter dash.
Houston's other winners in the women's division included Rachel Easley, Jennifer Harper and Caresir Hamilton.
Guy edged two of her teammates in winning both the 60 and 200-meter races. She won the 60-meter race in 7.52 seconds, just ahead of UH freshman Seum Adigun's time of 7.75 seconds.
In the 200-meter race, Guy had a winning time of 24.22 seconds to win the second heat of the race. Her time was .47 of a second faster than teammate Ebonie Floyd, who won the first heat in 24.69 seconds. Floyd finished ahead of another Lady Cougar, Cheryl Garner, who had a time of 25.08 seconds, while Octavia Garrett had a second-place time of 25.37 seconds in the second heat.
Floyd, Garner, Guy and Howard easily won the women's 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:48.64. Boise State finished second in 3:55.25.
Howard won the women's 400-meter race with a time of 54.50 seconds before running the anchor leg in the relay.
Easley won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.69 seconds in the first of two heats, while Adigun was the runner-up in a second event with the same time. Alexis Rogers finished in third place with a time of 9.04 seconds.
Caresir Hamilton won the women's triple jump with a leap of 12.86 meters (42-2.25).
In the men's division Houston won three races and two field events. Senior Preston Perry won the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.75 seconds and was the runner-up in the 200-meter race with a time of 21.44 seconds. Perry also ran on Houston's winning 4x400-meter relay team that finished with a time of 3:12.09. The other members of the relay team were Carey LaCour, Kolee Latson and Justin McQueen.
Latson won the men's 400-meter dash with a time of 48.05 seconds. A pair of 2005 Conference USA champions won their two field events as Tristian Whitley won the men's high jump after clearing 2.12 meters (6-11.50). Tom Rusteberg won the pole vault after he cleared 4.60 meters (15-1).
