Houston Cougars (1-2, 0-1 C-USA) at UTEP Miners (2-0, 1-0 C-USA)

** Friday's game was Houston's first overtime contest since falling 35-29 in the first over time at Southern Miss on Oct 7, 2004.
** The five points allowed by Houston in the first half was the fewest first points allowed by the Cougars on the road in the first half since UH held Rice scoreless through the first 30 minutes in the season opener on Aug. 31, 2002.
** The Cougars' 41 points against UTEP were the most ever scored against the Miners in the all-time series... UH scored seven points each in games during the 1946 and 1948 seasons, both losses.
** Friday's loss was the first time since Dec. 25, 2003, against Hawai'i during the 2003 Sheraton Hawai'I Bowl that the Cougars held a halftime lead on the road but eventually lost the game.
** The Cougars' 16-5 lead at halftime was the first time since holding a 20-13 lead on Dec. 25, 2003, at Hawai'i during the 2003 Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl that the Cougar held a lead at the break on the road... It was the first time during a regular-season since holding a 20-7 advantage at Army on Nov 15, 2003.
** The Cougars are 20-7 (.741) all-time in games played on Friday... The UTEP contest was the first Friday night game for the Cougars since facing Syracuse in the 1996 Liberty Bowl... It also was the first regular-season Friday night match-up for the Cougars since Nov 23, 1979, when UH knocked off Texas Tech 14-10.
** The Cougars are 0-3 (.000) all-time against UTEP... Friday's game was the first meeting between the Cougars and Miners on the gridiron since 1948.
** Cougars fell to 72-84-4 (.463) all-time during their history in the month of September.
** The Cougars dropped to 23-39 (.371) all-time in Conference USA games.... The Cougars fell to 69-61-1 (.531) all-time against current C-USA teams.
** The Cougars dropped to 28-14-1 (.663) all-time in conference openers... The Cougars dropped to 6-4 (.600) all-time in C-USA openers and saw their two-game winning streak in C-USA openers snapped.
** The Cougars dropped to 21-21-1 (.500) all-time in conference road openers... The Cougars fell to 3-7 (.300) all-time in C-USA road openers.
** The Cougars fell to 4-9 (.308) in games played in the Mountain Time Zone... Friday's game was the first time that UH played in the Mountain Time Zone since Sept. 23, 1989, at Arizona State.
** UTEP's safety at the 6:37 mark of the first quarter was the first by a Cougar opponent since Louisville accomplished the feat on Nov. 20, 2004.
** The Cougars' 91-yard touchdown-scoring drive on their final possession of the first half was the longest scoring drive by the Cougars in 2005... It topped the previous long of 81 yards in the fourth quarter against Sam Houston State on Sep 10.
** With five touchdown passes, quarterback Kevin Kolb moved past Jimmy Klingler (39 TDs, 1991-93) and Chuck Clements (43, 1993-95) into sole possession of fourth place in UH career history with 45 career touchdown passes... Up next in the UH records book is Jason McKinley, who threw 46 touchdown passes from 1999-00.
** With five touchdown passes, junior quarterback Kevin Kolb's set a new career high, topping his previous best of four touchdowns against Mississippi State on Sept. 20, 2003 and against TCU on Oct. 25, 2003.
** With 331 passing yards, junior quarterback Kevin Kolb recorded the eighth 300-yard passing game of his career and his second of the 2005 season.
** With five touchdown passes, junior quarterback Kevin Kolb recorded the 15th game of his collegiate career with at least two TD passes.
** With his 16-yard touchdown pass at the 5:56 mark of the second quarter, quarterback Kevin Kolb broke out of a tie with Gary Mullins (1969-71, 52 TDs responsible for) for sole possession of third place in UH career history for touchdowns responsible for... Kolb finished the night with 57 career touchdowns responsible for... Up next on the UH career list is Andre Ware, who was responsible for 81 touchdowns from 1987-89.
** With 50 pass attempts, junior quarterback Kevin Kolb set a new personal single-game high, topping his previous high of 44 set against Louisville on Nov 20, 2004 and at TCU on Oct 23, 2004.
** Quarterback Kevin Kolb's 46-yard punt around the 1:20 mark of the first quarter was the first of his career... It also equaled the longest punt by any Cougar this season, tying Justin Laird's mark against Oregon during the season opener Sept. 1.
** Quarterback Kevin Kolb's five interceptions were a new personal, single-game career high... It topped his previous high of two interceptions set at against Oregon (Sept. 1, 2005) and at Hawa'i (Dec. 25, 2003)... It was the most interceptions thrown by a Cougar quarterback since Nick Eddy tied a school record with seven interceptions against USF on Nov 23, 2002.
** Running back Ryan Gilbert's 57-yard rush around the 14:45 mark of the third quarter was the longest of his career, topping his previous long of 24 yards set against Sam Houston State on Sept. 10, 2005.
** With his 62-yard touchdown reception at the 0:28 mark of the second quarter, wide receiver Donnie Avery recorded his second touchdown of the game... It was the first multi-touchdown game of Avery's career.
** Wide receiver Donnie Avery's five receptions set a new personal single-game high... It topped his previous best of four catches against UAB on Nov 13, 2004.
** Wide receiver Jaron Harvey's 14-yard touchdown reception in the first overtime was the first catch and touchdown of his collegiate career... Harvey became the third Cougar wideout in 2005 to record a touchdown on his first career reception... Wide receiver Josh Carethers recorded a 15-yard touchdown against Sam Houston State on Sept. 10, 2005, and wide receiver Anthony Alridge posted a 62-yard touchdown on the final play of the first quarter in the season opener against Oregon on Sept. 1.
** With eight receptions, junior wide receiver Vincent Marshall moved into a tie with Sherman Smith for eighth place in UH career history with 140 career receptions... Up next in the UH records book is Elmo Wright, who caught 153 passes from 1968-70.
** With 50 receiving yards, junior wide receiver Vincent Marshall moved past Marcus Grant (1989-91, 1,927 yards) into sixth place in UH career history with 1,971 career receiving yards... Up next in the UH records book is Jason Phillips, who recorded 2,319 receiving yards from 1987-88.
** With 92 rushing yards, running back Anthony Evans moved past Terald Clark and Dick Post (2,219 yards, 1964-66) into eighth place in UH career history... Evans finished the game with 2,220 career rushing yards... Up next on the UH career list is Gene Shannon, who rushed for 2,332 rushing yards from 1949-51.
** With 21 rushing attempts, running back Anthony Evans moved past Terald Clark (456 attempts, 1976-80), Dick Post (457 attempts, 1964-66), Lionel Wilson (459 attempts, 1980-83) and Robert Newhouse (461 attempts, 1969-71) into third place in UH career history with 472 career rushes... Up next in the UH records book is Joffrey Reynolds, who rushed 618 times from 1999-02.
** Safety Rocky Schwartz recorded his fourth career interception and his first of the 2005 season around the 5:11 mark of the second quarter
** Linebacker Brendan Pahulu's forced his first career fumble around the 10:24 mark of the third quarter... He followed that with the second fumble recovery of his career and his first of the 2005 season.
** Sophomore cornerback Ricky Wilson recorded his third career interception and the first of the 2005 season around the 14:50 mark of the second quarter.
** Kicker Ben Bell's 36-yard field goal at the 12:57 mark of the first quarter was the first of his career.
** With his 25-yard field goal at the 13:23 mark of the third quarter, kicker Ben Bell recorded the first multi-field goal game of his career.
** With his reception on the Cougars' opening drive, junior wide receiver Vincent Marshall recorded at least one reception in 27 consecutive games dating back to the season opener on Aug. 30, 2003, against Rice at Robertson Stadium.
** Linebacker Rodney Rideau recovered his first career fumble around the 3:17 mark of the first quarter... Safety Joseph Gonzales forced his first career fumble on that play.
** UTEP kicker Reagan Schneider's five field goals tied a single-game record by a UH opponent... It equaled the five field goals kicked by Washington kicker Jeff Jaeger on Sept. 21, 1985 and by Oregon kicker Paul Martinez on Sept. 1, 2005, in the season opener.
** Consecutive Starts Streaks: Senior defensive end Kade Lane made his 39th consecutive start, dating back to Aug. 31, 2002, against Rice at Rice Stadium... Quarterback Kevin Kolb made his 27th consecutive start dating back to season opener on Aug. 30, 2003, against Rice at Robertson Stadium.
** First Starts: Freshman safety Kenneth Fontenette and sophomore defensive end Tate Stewart each made their first career starts.
