Whitley Wins High Jump at LSU Alumni Gold Invitational

Baton Rouge, La.- - University of Houston sophomore Tristian Whitley won the men's high jump at the LSU Alumni Gold Invitational after he cleared 7' ¼ " on Saturday.
Last week's Conference USA Athlete of the Week Andrew Carruthers had a second-place finish in the men's 110-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 14.01 seconds. Carruthers also had his best time of the year in the 400-meter hurdles when he finished in fourth place with 51.21 seconds.
Carruthers also teamed with Preston Perry, Termaine Smith and Carey LaCour to finish as the runner-up in the men's 4x100-meter relay race with a time of 39.95 seconds.
In the women's 100-meter hurdles race, senior Alicia Cave finished in sixth place with a time of 13.51 seconds. She also had the second-fastest collegiate time and third fastest time overall with 59.84 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles.
LaCour also had a sixth-place finish in the men's 200-meter dash with a time of 20.96 seconds. In the women's 200-meter race, LaDedra Guy finished in 10th place and qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships with a season-best time of 23.96 seconds.
Shawna Florida was the runner-up in the women's steeplechase with a time of 11.37.61, and Caresir Hamilton finished in second place after clearing 5' 7 ¼". Ivan Diggs also had a third-place finish in the men's high jump after he cleared 6' 9".
Brandon Bray improved his NCAA Regional mark in the men's long jump when he finished in sixth place with a leap of 24' 9¾".
Jonathan Reeves also was the runner-up in the men's shot put with a mark of 56' 1¼", and finished in eighth-place with a discus throw of 159' 4". Tinisha Wesley also had a fourth-place finish in the women's shot put with a mark of 46' 11 ¾".
