HOUSTON - The 70th-ranked University of Houston tennis team looks to close out the regular season strong when it plays host to the UTEP Miners this Friday, April 15, 2005, at the John E. Hoff Tennis Courts.
The last time out the Cougars fell in a tough match, 4-1, to the No. 72 Tulsa Golden Hurricane. In that match junior hitter Kami Miller earned her 30th singles victory of the 2004-05 campaign.
Earlier in the week the 12-8 Houston tennis team received some recognition by attaining their highest ranking in over three years at No. 70 in the country.
The Miners snapped a losing streak of six games in their last match as they defeated Northern Colorado, 7-0, last weekend. The win also improved their record to 5-12. UTEP will face off against Rice on Thursday in Houston before closing out their season on Friday against the Cougars.
Leading the Miners this season has been freshman Weronika Bloczynska, who has compiled an 11-6 record in singles play.
This weekend's match marks the first of three consecutive home dates for the Cougars as they close out the season with UTEP this Friday and a double-header against Sam Houston State and Lamar on Sunday.
The match-up gets started at noon this Friday on the main campus of the University of Houston, and on Sunday at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Admission is free to the public.
