HOUSTON - This weekend the University of Houston softball team is off to face the Islanders of Texas A&M at Corpus Christi, in Corpus Christi, Texas, marking the team's second straight road trip of the season.
Both teams come into Saturday's doubleheader looking to get back on the winning track as each school fell to its opponent in its previous outing.
Houston (18-18) has hit a skid as of late, reaching a season long losing streak after dropping their last six games in a three-game series sweep to both DePaul and ECU.
The Cougars have faired well this season against their non-conference competitors where the team has a 15-12 record against teams not in Conference USA.
Texas A&M Corpus Christi (28-6) comes into the weekend's matchup having not played a game since a March 20 loss to Coastal Carolina in Rock Hill, S.C., where the Islanders fell in a 3-2 nine-inning game.
The loss marked just the third time this season that Islander senior Sarah Pauly managed to not pull off a win. The senior from Phoenix, Ariz., has posted a 23-3 record on the year with an astounding 0.36 ERA. Pauly has accumulated 343 strikeouts on the season while allowing just 54 hits and 19 runs, of which nine have been earned.
At the plate, Jennifer Golden and Megan Hansen lead Corpus Christi with a .366 and a .309 batting average, respectively.
Golden has driven in 26 runners on 37 hits, has a team high nine homers and has scored 13 runs. Hansen has 32 RBI on 34 hits, seven homers, 10 doubles and has reached home to score 24 runs.
For Houston, Kristen Glowacz continues to lead the Cougars with her .393 batting average, 44 hits, 32 runs, 34 RBI, 11 doubles and 11 homeruns.
The Cougars carry six players hitting above .300 on the season, including Kim Nesloney who is hitting a career best .356 with 36 hits resulting in 19 RBI, six homers and 32 runs.
In the circle, freshman Angel Shamblin has shouldered the majority of the pitching duties with 81.1 innings pitched, where she has a 2.58 ERA with 69 hits and 30 earned runs. The freshman has also been lethal at the plate batting .312 and recording 24 hits, 16 RBI and four home runs.
The Cougars will be looking to extend their all-time record of 5-3 over the Islanders, which includes last season's 1-0 win in the NCAA Regionals.
The Islanders and Cougars throw out the first pitch of their twin bill on Saturday, April 2, at 2 and 4 p.m.
