HOUSTON - With a 6-0 record including four victories last week to open up the 2005 season, senior Biljana Dimovska was named the Conference USA Tennis Player of the Week by the league offices on Wednesday.
The award is the first such honor for Dimovska who earned All-Conference Third-Team honors last season as a junior-transfer student.
Last weekend the Melbourne, Australia, native picked up two victories in singles play and two wins in doubles wins while the Cougars faced Furman and Georgia State.
Against Furman on Friday, Dimovska was the only Cougar to not drop a match against the Paladins. Pairing with junior Yolandi Terblanche at the No. 2 position, the duo downed Furman's Jacqueline Eckert and Marti Morris in an easy 8-2 victory.
Dimovska then went on to claim the lone singles match for the Cougars, by defeating the Paladins' reigning Southland Conference Player of the Year, Neill Hagood, and did it in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.
On Sunday Dimovska continued to dominate as the Cougars faced Georgia State on the road. Once again Dimovska and Terblanche joined up at the No. 2 spot to win 8-2 over the Panthers' Annemaria Fargacs and Anne Breiholtz.
In singles, Dimovska again defeated Georgia State's two-time First Team All-Atlantic Sun Conference player, Forgacs, by scores of 7-6, and 6-2, to help Houston to a 7-0 win and a 2-1 overall record.
