Cougar Football Hands Out Annual Awards

HOUSTON, Texas - Even with one more game to play, a crucial bowl match-up with the Kansas Jayhawks on December 23 in the Fort Worth Bowl, the University of Houston football team handed out some individual honors at its annual football banquet on Friday night.
Senior running back Ryan Gilbert, fresh off a 1,000-yard regular season and a selection to the Conference USA First-Team, was the recipient of the Andre Ware Offensive MVP. As for the hard-hitting Rocky Schwartz, the sophomore Third-Team, All-C-USA selection was named the Wilson Whitley Defensive MVP.
The Special Teams MVP was awarded to senior fullback Roy Otis, a former walk on who earned a scholarship during the offseason. Senior tight end John McGilvray was honored for his hard work, dedication and team-first attitude by being selected the Tom Wilson Weight Room Off-Season MVP.
Finally, senior defensive end Kade Lane, who has started a UH-record 47 consecutive games heading into the Fort Worth Bowl, added to his Conference USA Second-Team accolades by picking up the President's Academic Excellence Award.
Off the playing field long-time boosters and supporters Murray and Sharon Stinson were awarded the Bill Yeoman Special Contributions Award for their undying love and support of Cougar Football.
