DALLAS, Texas - Junior transfer Sophia Mundy (Katy, Texas/St. Pius X HS/Portland State) and freshman Courtney Gaines (Sugar Land, Texas/Clements HS) earned All-Conference USA accolades, the league office announced today.
Mundy landed a spot on the first team while Gaines grabbed All-Freshman Team honors. Mundy is the program's fourth first-team honoree in eight years, joining Lindsay Beiriger (1999), Laura Repp (1999) and Nikki Hawkins (2003). Gaines is the eighth Cougar to nab honors on the freshman squad.
Mundy set single-season records for shots (94), points (31) and goals (13) in her first season with the Cougars. For her efforts, she now ranks fifth in career goals, sixth in shots and seventh in points. Her 5.81 shots per game and 0.81 goals per game average leads the league while her 94 shots ranks her second. She is also ranked third in goals and points. Mundy has tallied four multiple goal games this season and set a school record with her four goals against Texas Southern on Sept. 16. That single-game effort ranks her as one of 13 players at the NCAA Division I level to score four or more goals in a game this season.
"She has a great change of pace and a great soccer mind," head coach Bill Solberg said. "She has the ability to slow the game down in her head, take opponents on and finish her opportunities. I think she has helped to raise our expectations of where we want to be as a team. She also helps to keep the level of play as high as possible through the entire game because she demands a lot of herself and her teammates."

"It's great for a player like Courtney to get the recognition," Solberg said. "A lot of times, great players that don't have the stats don't get the recognition. As a freshmen she helps set the tone for the rest of the team with her work rate and effort. She's a flat out blue-collar hard-working soccer player. I am thrilled she was recognized for her efforts."
UH (8-6-3, 3-4-2 C-USA), the No. 8 seed in the C-USA Tournament, plays the No. 1 seed UCF, Wednesday, at noon in Rice's Track and Soccer Stadium. The league tournament is scheduled to run from Nov. 2-6 in Houston.
