COLLEGE STATION - After picking up two wins yesterday, No. 13 Kami Miller lost a 7-6, 6-2 decision to Karen Scida of Texas San Antonio in the final round of qualifying at the Wilson/ITA Southwest Regional Championship on the Texas A&M campus.
Loli Gomez and Brianna Bateup also dropped opening round matches in the main draw on Saturday. Gomez went three sets with Anna Sydorska of TCU falling 6-2 in the deciding set.
Both players move to the consolation draw and have matches slated for Sunday.
In qualifying consolation singles action, Sonja Nilolic and Yolandi Terblanche notched impressive straight set wins for the Cougars. After splitting the first two sets, Sarah Reimer fell in 10-7 in a hard-fought tiebreaker.
Houston was eliminated in the second round of the doubles in the main draw as Gomez and Bateup dropped a 8-5 decision to Gloriann Lopez and Andrea Morgado of TCU. Miller and Simpson fell 8-2 to No. 8 Zuzana Cerna and Klara Zrustova of Baylor. Both teams have matches scheduled for Sunday in the consolation draw.
McLaughlin and Terblance picked up an 8-2 doubles win in the consolation draw, while Nikolic and Reimer advanced on a default.
The Cougars continue the fall season next weekend hosting the Cougar Fall Classic at Hoff Courts on the UH campus.
