After taking the last week off from match competitions, the Houston volleyball team swings back into full gear with three home matches slated for this week beginning with Texas State on Tuesday.
After spending three weeks on the road, the Cougars are set to host TSU, before opening up Conference USA play with Southern Miss and Tulane on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
The Cougars (1-10) are coming off a tough 3-2 loss to Ball State at the C&C Service Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., and are looking to get back into the win column after dropping 10 straight matches.
The match between Houston and Texas State marks the 23rd meeting between the two teams with the Cougars leading the all-time series 21-2. The last time TSU claimed victory was in 1988. Houston has won the last six matches including the last meeting, a 3-1 win in 1998.
The Bobcats come into the match with a 7-4 record on the year, having won their last two matches by scores of 3-1.
After being picked by C-USA coaches to finish 3rd in conference, the Cougars open up league play on Friday and Saturday as Southern Miss and Tulane come to town.
Last season both teams defeated the Cougars on their home floors, this year the Cougars are looking to return the favor.
Southern Miss enters the match with a 3-6 record and will play Alabama on Tuesday before the conference opener with Houston. Currently the Golden Eagles are riding a four-match losing streak that dates back to Sept. 17 against Ohio.
The Green Wave comes in to Saturday's match after playing TCU on Friday. Tulane has not played an opponent since Sept. 12 due to the hurricane storms in Florida where their matches were previously scheduled to be played.
The Cougars and Bobcats square off on Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 7:00 p.m. at the Athletics/Alumni Center on the main campus of the University of Houston and admission is free.
