HOUSTON - The University of Houston football team continued preparations for its showdown against No. 4 Miami with a solid workout Tuesday afternoon at the UH Athletics Complex.
UH plays host to the Hurricanes at 6:30 p.m., Thursday at Reliant Stadium. Thursday's game can be heard live on Star 790 KBME-AM, beginning with the pregame show 45 minutes prior to kickoff. Tom Franklin handles play-by-play duties, while Tony Fitzpatrick will provide color analysis. Chuck Brown will serve as the roving sideline reporter.
In addition, all Cougar football games can be heard live on the Internet by logging onto the UH Athletics web site at www.UHCougars.com.
The game also will be televised live by ESPN. The ESPN crew will be Mike Tirico, Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit and Jill Arrington.
Working out in shorts and shoulder pads, the Cougars practiced for about two hours. With a game on Thursday, UH second-year head coach Art Briles and his staff had less time to prepare for their second Top Four opponent this season, but that's no cause of concern for them.
"We would have liked it a little bit more if we had had an afternoon game on Saturday, and we could have cleaned up everything from that game (Army)," Briles said. "That's the schedule we are dealt with, so it's the way we'll deal with it."
For the second time this season, the Cougars will play at Reliant Stadium after suffering a 10-7 loss to crosstown rival Rice in the season opener on Sept. 5. Playing a nationally-ranked opponent on national television in a premier facility will only help Briles and the young Cougar program he continues to build.
"This is a showcase place for Miami and us," Briles said. "This game allows us to play at a high level against one of the best teams in the nation and see where we stack up."
