Houston Volleyball Announces Signings

HOUSTON - The University of Houston volleyball head coach Bill Walton announced the signing of three players today. Kariny Ritter, Zuela Adom and Jennifer Hohl will join the program in fall and help the Cougars back to national prominence.
Ritter, a six foot middle blocker from Porto Alegre, Brazil, comes to Houston after spending two years at Western Nebraska Community College where she was a two-time All American, second team in 2002, honorable mention in 2003. She finished her career at WNCC with 736 kills, 279 blocks, 835 digs and 108 set assists. She scored a total of 497 points and had 122 service aces in 265 games.
"Kariny is an experienced, mature player whose impact on our program should be immediate," Walton said.
Adom comes to the Cougars from Trinity High School in Euless, Texas where she was a three sport athlete, excelling in track and basketball as well as volleyball. She was named Second Team All State honors received blocker of the year award in the Dallas/Fort Worth area as well as being named Academic All District. Adom is a two-time state runner up in the triple jump and was named the district most valuable player in basketball. She will also participate in track at the University of Houston.
"She is going to be one of our best athletes," Walton said. "What she lacks in experience, she will make up with her athletic ability."
Hohl comes to Houston from Jasper, Indiana after spending two years at lake Land College. The five foot 10 inch setter was the co-captain at Lake Land in 2003 and her team finished ninth at the NJCAA Nationals in 2002. She was named First-team All Regional and Second Team All-Tournament, and was a candidate for All-American.
"Her setting experience and athletic ability will be of immediate importance to us this year," Walton said. "Our team is looking for her leadership skills from the setting position to impact our kills per game stat this season."
