HOUSTON - The University of Houston women's basketball team grabbed its highest ranking ever and the highest ever ranking for a Conference USA school in the Associated Press top 25 poll Monday afternoon when the Lady Cougars were tabbed No. 11 in the country.
Houston jumped six places to 11th after beating then-No. 13 TCU for its ninth straight win and the C-USA championship. The ranking ties the highest mark by a C-USA school in any poll. DePaul was ranked 11th by the ESPN/USA Today coaches poll the week of February 16.
"I think it's great, and it's great to have three Conference USA schools in the top 25 at this point in the year," UH head coach Joe Curl said. "We're hungry to get into the top 10, but for our conference to have three teams in the top 25 after beating up on each other, says a lot about our conference."
TCU dropped from No. 13 to 16 this week and DePaul dropped from 20th to 24th after falling to Marquette Sunday afternoon.
The Lady Cougars will be in action Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. in the quarterfinals of the C-USA Tournament when they take on the winner of the Cincinnati/USF game in Fort Worth.
