University of Houston senior guard Chandi Jones, a two-time Conference USA Player of the Year, was named Conference USA Co-Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 8, it was announced by the league office today.
Jones shares the weekly league honor with Louisville senior Sara Nord, who notched double-digit performances to lead the Cardinals to wins over UAB and USF last week.
Jones led the No. 23 Lady Cougars (19-3, 8-1 C-USA) to a 2-0 record last week, including an 83-78 triple-overtime victory against Tulane on Feb. 8 in which she tied her career high of 39 points en route to marking her third 30-plus point performance of the 2003-04 season.
In Houston's win over Southern Miss on Feb. 6, Jones tallied a game-high 23 points, while adding four steals. For the weekend, she averaged 31 points, 4.5 steals and 4.0 rebounds per game.
With two double-digit point outings this past weekend, Jones has now recorded 10-or-more points in an NCAA-record 104 consecutive games, each of her collegiate career at Houston.
In addition, through games of Feb. 8, Jones has tallied 2,449 points in 104 career games, putting her just 40 points shy of becoming the all-time leading scorer in Conference USA history. Tamika Whitmore, the current leader, bucketed 2,488 points in 120 games for the Memphis Tigers from 1996-99.
The award is the third for Jones this season, and the tenth overall in her career.
Houston continues C-USA action on the road this weekend at Charlotte on Feb. 13 and at ECU on Feb. 15.
