Conference Honors Keith For Big Weekend

HOUSTON, Texas - University of Houston junior first baseman Michelle Keith (Gainesville, Fla.) today was named the Conference USA Hitter of the Week for her weekend performance at the Time Warner Cable Texas Invitational.
Keith earned the first C-USA Hitter of the Week honors by batting.583 in the Time Warner Cable Texas Invitational while slugging 1.083 and getting on base at a .667 clip. She was the only Cougar to have at least one hit in every game, and she reached base a team-best 10 times in five games.
Keith's double to dead center in the bottom of the seventh inning in the first game against Texas tied the game at seven and forced extra innings. Her first home run of the season against Sam Houston State gave the Cougars an early 1-0 lead. Over five games at the tournament Keith was seven-for-12 and struck out just once.
South Florida pitcher Leigh Ann Ellis picked up the C-USA Pitcher of the Week honors. Houston?s nominee was senior Jenny Johnson, who pitched almost 16 innings over the weekend and did not give up an earned run.
