Lyttle honored by C-USA after impressive weekend

HOUSTON - After leading the University of Houston women's basketball team to wins over No. 11/12 DePaul on Friday and Marquette on Sunday, junior Sancho Lyttle was named Conference USA Co-Player of the Week with TCU's Sandora Irvin for the period ending Feb. 22.
Lyttle led the Cougars to victories over No. 11 DePaul, 84-75, and Marquette, 77-64, last weekend, and a share of its first C-USA regular season title. Against the Blue Demons, she notched a season-high 30 points, while adding 15 rebounds and on Sunday she continued her solid play, posting her 11th double double of the season with 21 points and 10 rebounds. She concluded the weekend, shooting 68.8 percent from the field (22-of-32), while averaging 25.5 points and 12.5 rebounds per game.
For the season Lyttle is averaging 16.4 points per game and 9.6 rebounds for Houston who is having its best season in school history with a 23-3 record, and is ranked No. 17 in the latest AP poll.
Lyttle being named Co-P layer of the Week marks the first time this season she has been honored and the third consecutive week that a Lady Cougar has been recognized by the conference. Senior, All American Chandi Jones was named co-player of the week last week and the week before.
Lyttle and the Lady Cougars will be in action again Friday night for the regular season finale against TCU. Houston (12-1 C-USA) wrapped up at least a share of the C-USA title on Sunday and can win the conference championship out right with a win over the Horned Frogs Friday night.
