HOUSTON - University of Houston senior guard Chandi Jones, a two-time Conference USA Player of the Year, was named Conference USA Co-Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 15, it was announced by the league office today.
Jones shares the weekly league honor with DePaul sophomore Khara Smith, who shot 76.5 percent from the field, while averaging 29.5 points per game while leading the Blue Demons to wins over Memphis and Saint Louis.
Jones became the all-time career-scoring leader in Conference USA while leading Houston to a 73-65 victory at East Carolina on Feb. 15. She finished the game with 21 points to surpass the previous record of 2,488 held by Memphis' Tamika Whitmore (1996-99). Currently, Jones has scored 2,490 points in her four-year career at Houston. In Houston's win against Charlotte on Feb 13, she recorded her third double-double of the season with 20 points and 11 rebounds.
For the week, Jones averaged 20.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game. The Cougars claimed their 20th victory of the season and are tied for first place in the league standings with a 10-1 conference mark.
With two double-digit point outings this past weekend, Jones has now recorded 10-or-more points in an NCAA-record 106 consecutive games, each game of her collegiate career at Houston.
The award is the fourth for Jones this season, and the eleventh overall in her career.
Houston continues C-USA action at home this weekend when they host fellow top seed DePaul Friday night Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. and Marquette on Sunday Feb. 22, at 2 p.m.
