POSTGAME NOTES
** UH improved to 6-4 (.600) in the all-time series against Tulane ... Cougars improved to 58-54 (.518) against current Conference USA teams... Cougars improved to 110-117-6 (.485) all-time in the month of October... Cougars improved to 17-10 (.630) all time against teams from the state of Louisiana.
** The Cougars scored a touchdown on their opening drive for the fourth time in the 2004 season.
** Saturday's game was the first time since Aug. 31, 2002, at Rice that the Cougars held an opponent scoreless in the first half... By holding Tulane scoreless through the first three quarters, the Cougar defense enjoyed its longest scoreless streak since holding LSU and Army scoreless over a six-quarter span on Nov. 13-20, 1999 (last three quarters at LSU on Nov. 13; first three quarters at Army on Nov. 20).
** The Cougar defense held its opponent to its lowest point total since shutting out Louisiana-Lafayette 45-0 on Sept. 18, 1999 at John O'Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium.
** Wide receiver Donnie Avery's 60-yard reception around the 9:58 mark of the first quarter was a career long.
** Linebacker Wade Koehl's fumble recovery in the end zone at the 7:10 mark of the first quarter was the first fumble recovery for a touchdown by the Cougars since Ahmad Charles returned a fumble 66 yards for a score against Rice on Sept. 4, 1999... It also was Koehl's first career touchdown.
** Defensive end Travis Griffith recorded his first career sack and first career forced fumble at the 7:10 mark of the first quarter... His sack of Tulane quarterback Lester Ricard led to the Cougars' second touchdown of the game.
** Junior cornerback Willie Gaston recorded his third interception of the 2004 season and his career on the last play of the third quarter.
** Senior cornerback Stanford Routt recorded his second interception of the 2004 season and the seventh pickoff of his career at the 0:42 mark of the third quarter.
** With 267 passing yards, quarterback Kevin Kolb became only the sixth quarterback in school history to throw for more than 5,000 yards during his career... Kolb now has thrown for 5,075 yards during his career.
** With 314 yards of total offense (267 pass, 47 rush), quarterback Kevin Kolb moved past Jimmy Klingler (1991-93) into sixth place in UH career history with 5,122 yards of total offense... Up next in the UH records book is Gerald Landry (1983-86) who accumulated 5,829 yards of total offense during his career.
** With his rushing touchdown at the 11:11 mark of the second quarter, quarterback Kevin Kolb moved into a tie with Bo Burris (1964-66) for fifth place in UH career history with 41 touchdowns for which he was responsible. Up next in the UH records book is Jason McKinley (1997-00) who was responsible for 47 touchdowns during his career.
** Quarterback Kevin Kolb's interception around the 1:50 mark of the second quarter was his first interception thrown in his previous 150 attempts... It was only his third interception of the season.
** With his 42-yard field goal at the 6:42 mark of the second quarter, kicker Dustin Bell moved past Mike Clendenen into fifth place in UH career history in scoring... Bell now stands in fifth place with 210 points during his career... Up next in the UH records book is Elmo Wright (1968-70), who tallied 216 points during his career.
** With his 42-yard field goal at the 6:42 mark of the second quarter, kicker Dustin Bell moved past Mike Clendenen into second place in UH career history in kick scoring with 210 points... Up next in the UH records book is Roman Anderson (1988-91), who tallied 423 points during his career.
** With his 42-yard field goal at the 6:42 mark of the second quarter, kicker Dustin Bell moved into a tie for third place with Chip Browndyke with 37 career field goals... Up next in the UH records book is Mike Clendenen (1981-84) who booted 41 field goals during his career.
** CONSECUTIVE STARTS STREAKS: Defensive tackle Kade Lane made his 32nd consecutive start, dating back to Aug. 31, 2002, against Rice at Rice Stadium.
** FIRST STARTS: Sophomore wide receiver Perry McDaniel made his first career start.
** FIRST GAME: Sophomore defensive lineman Ricky Barela saw his first action of the 2004 season and his career as a reserve.
