HOUSTON - With the first tournament of the 2004 Fall Season under its belt, the Cougar tennis team is headed to College Station for the Regional Tournament, hosted by Texas A&M, Friday-Sunday, Oct. 15-17.
Senior Biljana Dimovska earned an automatic qualification into the main draw of the tournament where as the rest of the team is hoping to win their qualifying matches on Friday to be entered into the main draw.
All three doubles pairing - Dimovska/Gumbs, Martin/Miller, Terblanche/McLoughlin - are already entered into the main draw at the tournament.
Last weekend, the Cougars came away with a successful outing at the San Diego Tournament where junior Kami Miller claimed the Singles B-Flight Championship after going through the tournament undefeated and the doubles pairing of Dimovska and freshman Sacha Gumbs won the doubles consolation bracket.
With high-powered teams such as Texas and Tulane in attendance, the Cougars are hoping that some of the momentum they started at the beginning of the season will help to carry them through the Regional Tournament.
Also attending the meet will be Rice, Texas Tech, UTEP, Baylor, Lamar, Prairie View A&M, Texas A&M, Texas A&M-CC, TCU and others.
