HOUSTON, Texas - Fresh off an outstanding fall campaign, the University of Houston women's tennis begins their quest for the Conference USA title by playing a match against McNeese State tomorrow afternoon in Lake Charles, La. The Cougars will conclude their quick two-match road trip with a noon face-off against Lamar in Beaumont on Sunday, February 1.
Under the direction of fifth-year head coach Jennifer Hyde, the Cougars enter the 2004 Spring campaign with some momentum from 2003. For the first time in five years, Houston posted a winning record in match play, racking up a 13-10 record and third-place finish at the C-USA Tournament. It was the highest finish for UH since capturing the C-USA league crown in 1998.
Houston returns five of its top six performers from a year ago, including the sophomore tandem of Miranda Foley and Yolandi Terblanche who combined for a 21-15 dual record. The Cougars also add a trio of impressive transfers to this year?s squad, as Florida International transfer Hanaa Rhazi and a pair of reigning national champions, Biljana Dimovska (NAIA) and Diana Martin (junior college), look to enhance an already formidable team.
The Cougars will open the home portion of their schedule, when they play host to Texas State University on Wednesday, February 4, beginning at 11 am at the John E. Hoff Tennis Courts on the UH campus.
