Julianne Sitch's penalty kick with just under two minutes left in regulation gave the DePaul Blue Demons a 1-0 shutout win over the visiting Univerisity of Houston Cougars on Friday (Sept. 19) evening at Wish Field in Chicago, Ill.
A young Houston team lost another heartbreaker in a battle on both sides of the ball as the first 88 minutes of action saw the two teams play to a stalemate.
DePaul outshot Houston, 17-6, for the match, but like the Cougars, were unable to find the net as Houston goalie Erin Ferguson maintained her stellar play with six saves on the night.
In a flurry in front of the goal off a DePaul corner kick following a Houston foul, Sitch lined up the penalty kick and sent it past a diving Ferguson into the right side of the net at 88:04.
Senior Nicole Aubuchon led the Cougars with two shots.
Houston (2-5-1) looks for its first league win of the season on Sunday (Sept. 21) afternoon against the Marquette Golden Eagles in Milwaukee before returning home to Robertson Stadium next weekend for C-USA matches against the Saint Louis Billekens on Friday, Sept. 26, at 7:00p.m. and East Carolina Pirates on Sunday, Sept. 28, at 1:00p.m.
