After the NCAA won an appeal to overturn an injunction that would have allowed universities to play in more than two exempt tournaments in a four-year period, the University of Houston was force to pull out of the Great Alaska Shootout in Anchorage, Alaska.
Houston was scheduled to play Liberty in the first round of the Great Alaska Shootout with a second round game against Duke or Pacific before having to pull out of the tournament.
Houston signed to play in the BCA Classic at Wake Forest in 2000-01 and played in the Maui Invitational in 2001-02 as exempt tournaments. The fact that the Cougars signed to play in the BCA Classic after the rule went into effect resulted in Houston having to pull out of the BCA Classic.
The Cougars will add one more game before announcing their 2003-04 schedule.
