Head coach Bill Walton said the most important thing the team has done so far, is the way the team is coming together. With eight newcomers, six of which are freshman, the young Cougars are learning how to play together.
"We're doing a great job, we have eight new players and we're doing a good job of getting everybody acclimated to each other," Walton said. "They are responding very well to each other and the cohesion is coming together very well. They're a little sore today but that soreness should start to go away in the next few days from the amount of training we're doing."
With the eight new players, Walton has put an emphasis on learning the Cougar's offensive and defensive systems.
"With eight new players, we want to get our offensive and defensive systems down first so we understand what we're doing," he said. "We did the offensive system for the first three and a half days and last night we started the defensive system. We did the offensive system first so that when we are on defense, after we dig a ball and we audible, everybody knows what to call. Since after every defensive play there is an offensive play, we wanted to make sure everybody understood the offensive system."
The Cougars start the season against Wyoming on Aug. 29 at 11 a.m. in Waco at the Baylor Classic.
