HOUSTON - University of Houston women's basketball head coach Joe Curl recently announced the signing of junior college transfer Joann Overstreet (Killeen, Texas-Ellison HS/Midland JC) to a National Letter of Intent. The 5-5 point guard will join the Lady Cougars for the 2003-04 season.
"Joann makes a great addition to this team," Curl said. "She will make everyone on the court better and will see a good bit of playing time right away. She is a great kid and a great student as well."
Overstreet finished her sophomore season at Midland College in Midland, Texas, averaging 6.0 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. In addition to being named "Lady Chap Best Defensive Player," she posted a school-record 166 assists and earned first-team all-conference honors in 2003.
The Lady Chaparrals, who finished 31-6 and 3rd in the NJCAA National Tournament last year, were also Western Junior College Athletic Conference champions.
Overstreet will see valuable playing time at the point guard position in the absence of 2003 senior guard Lashinda Winters.
