HOUSTON - Despite not recording a decision last week, University of Houston pitcher Brad Sullivan was honored Monday as the Conference USA Pitcher of the Week.
It was the second time in the last three weeks and the fourth time during his illustrious career that Sullivan has picked up the league's weekly award.
In his last start against East Carolina in last weekend's C-USA season opener, Sullivan tossed a UH season-best 12 strikeouts in 10.0 shutout innings. The Nederland, Texas, native struck out at least one batter in eight of his final nine innings but did not pick up the win as East Carolina scored the game's lone run in the top of the 12th inning.
With his impressive performance, Sullivan also became only the second player in UH career history and the sixth player in C-USA history to reach the 300-strikeout mark. He finished the evening with 309 Ks, the second highest total in Cougar history behind Shane Nance's 388 strikeouts, and tied for the fourth-highest mark in league history.
He lowered his ERA to its current 1.93 mark, second best on the team, and tops the UH pitching staff with 54 strikeouts and only nine walks.
Sullivan and his Cougar teammates return to action this week as they play host to top-ranked Rice in Game Three of the Silver Glove Series at 7 p.m., Wednesday, at Cougar Field.
UH (8-12) will be looking to stave off elimination in the Series after dropping the first two contests to the Owls earlier this season.
Louisville's Scott Barber was honored as Co-Pitcher of the Week, while the Cardinals' Morgan Bojorquez picked up the Hitter of the Week award.
