The University of Houston returns home to play host to the University of Southern Mississippi in a Conference USA game on Tuesday, February 18, at 7:30 p.m. in Hofheinz Pavilion.
The Cougars enter the game with a 6-15 overall record and have a 4-6 C-USA mark after suffering a 62-47 loss at South Florida on February 15.
The loss at South Florida was Houston's fourth straight loss after the Cougars also dropped a 59-55 overtime setback at Charlotte on February 12 and lost their last two home games against Tulane (65-58 on February 4) and Louisville (81-55 on February 8) in Hofheinz Pavilion. Before those four losses, Houston had won three straight games. The Cougars beat South Florida, 59-57, on January 29 in Houston, Southern Miss 76-75, in Biloxi's Mississippi Gulf Coast Coliseum on January 25 and TCU, 61-56, in Fort Worth on February 1.
Southern Miss enters Tuesday night's game with a 10-12 overall record and a 3-8 C-USA mark after suffering a 74-69 overtime loss against DePaul last Saturday. It was the Golden Eagles third straight loss after a 60-57 setback at East Carolina on February 8 and an 85-75 loss at TCU on February 12. Those three losses came after Southern Miss beat UAB, 82-80, in ovetime at Hattiesburg.
Following the Southern Miss game, Houston closes out the month of February at UAB on February 22 and at Tulane on February 26. The Cougars open the month of March with two home games against TCU on March 1 and Memphis on March 6. Houston closes out the regular season at DePaul on February 8.
