HOUSTON - Texas - With three days remaining before the University of Houston takes on the Tulane Green Wave, the Cougars practiced for two hours in preparation for their second Conference USA of the year.
The Cougars (4-1, 1-0 C-USA) meet the Green Wave at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, at Tad Gormley Stadium on the Tulane campus in New Orleans.
Head coach Art Briles said Saturday's game, just like every C-USA game for the rest of the year, is an important one.
"This is another conference game and it's huge in our conference standing, just as the game with East Carolina was," he said. "We need to go play football for 60 minutes and represent the University of Houston in a fine fashion."
Tulane quarterback J.P. Losman is one of the top rated quarterbacks in the nation, averaging 308.2 yards per game with 16 touchdown passes while running back Mewelde Moore has rushed for 426 yards in five games. Briles said playing against this team will be a good challenge for the Cougar defense.
"They're a really fine football team on both sides of the ball. Losman is one of the top rated guys in the nation and Moore is a great running back, they have great weapons at wide receiver and their offensive line does a good job. It's a great opportunity for our defense to match up against a great offensive football team."
Briles said his team is ready for Saturday's game, and Wednesday's practice showed it.
"We had a really, really good practice today," Briles said. "We're ready to play some football and get on with it."
