Cougars begin official basketball practice on Saturday

Houston, Texas - The University of Houston men's basketball will begin official practice for the 2003-04 season on Saturday, October 18 with two workouts scheduled in Hofheinz Pavilion. The Cougars first workout will be held Saturday morning and a second workout in the afternoon. The second practice will be open to the public starting at 4:15 p.m.
Houston will have four starters returning from last year. They are junior guards Andre Owens and Bryan Shelton, senior center Anwar Ferguson and sophomore swingman Cedrick Hensley.
The Cougars also regain the services of three-year starter, Marcus Oliver, who sat out last year with a torn ACL injury in his right knee after earning All-Tournament team honors at the 2001-02 Conference USA Tournament.
Houston also returns junior Moshood Martins and sophomores Ramon Dyer, Aaron Anderson, Kevin Barber and Justin Kostohryz.
Head coach Ray McCallum has added senior Andy Ikeakor, freshmen Andrew Francis, Elijah Miller, Grega Nachbar, Parker Pinkalla and Lanny Smith along with junior college transfers Terrence Morgan and John Taylor.
Houston opens its 2003-04 season with an exhibition game against the Texas Blue Chips on November 17 and plays its regular season opener against East Tennessee State on November 21.
