In yet another physical and defensive battle which saw four yellow cards and a red between both teams, the University of Houston women's soccer team, despite notching two goals and out-shooting TCU 12-10, fell in its fifth straight conference match to the visiting TCU Horned Frogs, 3-2, on Friday (Oct. 10) night at Robertson Stadium.
Houston took the lead in the opening minutes when junior Anne Gasser, who had a season-high four shots in the match, sailed a pass from Nicole Aubuchon, who lead the Cougars with a career-high five shots on the night, over the head of TCU goalie Katie Buchanan at 3:24. The Cougars' defense stabilized the lead throughout the first half while goalie Sarah Webster was stellar in the box.
TCU evened the score when Jessi Moore took a solo shot past a diving Webster at 55:30, then just two minutes later, Moore gave the Horned Frogs' the 2-1 lead when Karissa Hill passed to Moore, who punched the ball past a diving Webster.
With under six minutes remaining in regulation, Houston's Beth Outlaw, who subbed in for Sarah Fisher late in the second half, tied the score once again at 85:23 when she beat Buchanan on a high pass into the net.
With the score dead-locked at 2-2 and the clock winding down to the final minute of play, TCU's Ashley Fortune passed to Amy Van Zandt, who sailed the ball high and to the back of the goal box to give the Horned Frogs the 3-2 lead with 51 seconds left on the clock.
With the loss, the Cougars season record now rests at 2-10-1, 0-5-0 in C-USA. They host the Memphis Tigers on Oct. 12 at 1:00p.m.
