Truscott's Heroics Lift Cougars Over Southern Miss

BILOXI, Miss. (AP) - Louis Truscott had 19 points, including the winning shot with four seconds left Saturday in Houston's 76-75 victory over Southern Mississippi.
Truscott also had 18 rebounds as Southern Miss (9-7, 2-3 Conference USA) dropped its third straight game.
Houston (4-11, 2-2) led 74-70 with 23 seconds remaining when Mario Myles was fouled and made two free throws to pull Southern Miss back within two.
After the made free throws, Myles stole Houston's inbound pass and drove the lane for a layup and the foul. Myles converted the 3-point play to give the Golden Eagles the lead.
With 11 seconds on the clock, Houston drove down the court and Truscott caught a pass underneath the basket and hit the winning layup.
Southern Miss had the last shot but Myles could not knock down a jumper in the lane.
Greg Johnson, Jasper Johnson and David Haywood scored 15 points each to led Southern Mississippi, who was playing its first game at the Coast Coliseum in Biloxi since a Dec. 17, 1994 game against Mississippi State.
Houston led by as much as 15 in the second half.
Southern Miss went on a 19-6 run in a five-minute span to pull within two, 71-69, with 1:39 remaining.
The Golden Eagles had a 12-point lead in the first half until Houston countered by outscoring Southern Miss 21-8 in the final nine minutes of the first half.
Houston led 37-35 at the break.
Cedrick Hensley scored 16 points for the Cougars. Andre Owens added 15 for Houston.
