Houston Looks to Break Two-Game Skid Friday Against 49ers

HOUSTON - The Lady Cougar basketball team (9-6, 1-2 C-USA) will continue its campaign for a 2003 Conference USA championship as it hosts league rival Charlotte (10-5, 2-0 C-USA) Friday night at Hofheinz Pavilion. The C-USA contest will be designated "Houston Kid's Night" and will tip off at 7 p.m.
Charlotte won its fourth game in a row Sunday, defeating East Carolina, 79-63. Peaches Harris paced the 49ers with a season-high 24 points. She knocked down four three-pointers in the game to move into third place on the school's career three-pointers list. Senior Alicia Abernathy posted her second double-double of the season with 12 points and 14 rebounds.
Charlotte, picked to finish sixth in C-USA behind Houston this season, is led by freshman Pam Brown (6-0, F) and Abernathy (5-9, F), who lead the team in scoring (12.0 ppg) and rebounds (7.7 rpg), respectively.
The Lady Cougars are looking for their seventh consecutive home win and are coming off a 79-69 loss Sunday at Cincinnati. Houston is led by All-American Chandi Jones (5-10, G/F), who currently tops the league and nation in scoring this season. Jones, a two-time C-USA Player of the Week already this season and the 2002 C-USA Player of the Year, is averaging 27.3 points, 8.1 rebounds and 3.8 steals per contest.
Interactive games provided by Fun Unlimited and Radio Disney's 'Green Machine' will be available for kids as part of the night's activities.
Action will return to Hofheinz Sunday as Houston hosts East Carolina at 1 p.m.
