Cincinnati's women's soccer team scored early and let its defense do the rest in a 1-0 victory over the University of Houston at Meyers Field in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Sunday (Sept. 29) afternoon.
Heather Herweh provided the lone goal of the game in the 13th minute. The goal, Herweh's first of the season, came off a corner kick from Tasha Wagner. Wagner's kick bounced off two Houston defenders, before Herweh gathered the ball 20 yards out and blasted a shot past Houston goalkeeper Erin Fergusson. Wagner was credited with the assist.
UC bombarded the Cougar goal with 13 shots while Houston had five, all on goal.
With the loss, the Cougars season record falls to 4-3-2, including 1-1-2 in Conference USA play. Houston returns home to Robertson Stadium on Wednesday, Oct. 2, to host Southwest Texas with kick-off at 6:00 p.m.
