HOUSTON, Texas - University of Houston pitcher Brad Sullivan was named Conference USA Pitcher of the Week on Monday for the third time this season.
In the series opener against TCU last week, Sullivan was masterful against the Horned Frogs. The Nederland, Texas, native faced one batter over the minimum and allowed only four baserunners in leading the Cougars to a 2-0 win.
He did not allow a TCU baserunner to reach second base in the game and recorded three walks that were all erased on double plays. With the sweep of the Horned Frogs, the Cougars claimed their third C-USA regular-season championship in the last four years.
It was his second shutout of the season with both coming in C-USA play. This season, he leads the team and ranks among the top league leaders with a 10-1 record, 2.18 ERA and a UH single-season record 134 strikeouts.
Sullivan and his Cougar teammates return to action at 3 p.m. (CDT) Tuesday when they face No. 8 seed Saint Louis in the first game of the 2002 C-USA Tournament.
