HOUSTON, Texas - University of Houston pitcher Brad Sullivan added another regular-season honor Tuesday when he was honored as the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association National Pitcher of the Week.
The Nederland, Texas, native recorded his career-best fifth straight win on Friday with a solid performance in game one against Tulane that helped set the tone for the entire series. He struck out a career-best 15 batters while scattering four hits and only one walk during his first career shutout.
With that performance, he lowered his ERA to an eye-popping 1.01 mark with 59 strikeouts in 44.2 innings of work. He leads C-USA with his strikeout and ERA totals and is second only to teammate Keith Whatley in wins.
Cal State Fullerton sophomore outfielder Shane Costa earned National Hitter of the Week honors.
The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference every week and names the winners on Tuesday throughout the season.
