Cougar Softball Unable to Hold Back Aggies

Houston, Texas - The Cougars of Houston (22-13) came out for the first night game of the year to face the No. 20 Aggies of Texas A&M (24-6). The Cougars held the game close for six innings before the game slipped away, the final 6-0.
It was a tight game throughout, the Aggies only earning two hits going into the top of the sixth inning. They managed to get two runs across the plate with a solo homerun by Kelly Ferguson in the second and Crystal Martin knocked a double to right center to score Selena Collins who reached base on a walk. Making the score 2-0 going into the top of the seventh.
The first hit of the game for the Cougars was by freshman Kim Nesloney to left field, but she was unable to make the full trip around.
The Aggies scored four more runs in the top of the seventh after a controversial play at second, to let the first run score. Hits by the A&M in the inning were by Jennifer Davis, Crystal Collins and Kelly Ferguson.
The winning pitcher for Texas A&M was Slataper who threw eight strikeouts to seat the Cougars. Jenny Johnson finished the game on the mound for the Houston squad and moves to 7-7.
