Houston Splits Conference Series With Forty-Niners

Houston, Texas - The Cougars challenged the 49ers of Charlotte in a Conference USA double header on Saturday, losing the first of the series and winning the second in five innings.
The Niners scored their runs early in the first game to get the lead. The first runs were driven in by Stephanie Dunlap's homerun to left center, which also scored Kristy Constantino. The Niners put up a third run in the second when Autumn Lawson knocked herself in with a homer to centerfield.
The Cougars attempted their come-back in the seventh inning only to fall short scoring just one to finish the game. The hits in the inning were by Jenilee Skender, her third of the game, and a bunt-hit by Ali McDougall. The run was batted in by Leslie Seay.
The game went to Jamie Falco who falls to 9-4, but was finished by Jenny Johnson.
The second game of the day, the Niners again took the first lead with Constantino scoring on a double by Dunlap.
The Cougars came back in the bottom of the first to score five runs in the bottom of the first on hits by Leslie Seay, Riane Netardus, Ray Ferreris, and a homerun by Jeanie Davis making the score 5-1.
A two-run homer by Jenilee Skender also scored Ferreris pulling the Cougars up by six (7-1) in the bottom of the third. Skender knocked in another run in the bottom of the fourth followed by Ali McDougall who scored Kristen Glowacz to put the Cougars up by 8. Charlotte was unable to put up another point and the Cougars took the game early in the fifth by slaughter rule. Final score 9-1 in five innings.
The winning pitcher for the Cougars was Jenny Johnson, who moves to 8-7 on the year. Jenilee Skender led the hitters for the day finishing with five hits in six at-bats, which included her fifth homerun of the year.
The Cougars will challenge the 49ers again on Sunday at 1:00pm for the third game of the C-USA match-up.
