Cougar Softball Unable To Defeat Southern Miss Golden Eagles

Houston, Texas - The Cougars struggled against the Eagles loosing 8-2 in seven innings. The Cougars finish the series 0-3 and will next face Texas A&M in a single night game on Wednesday, March 13, 2002.
The Golden Eagles yet again took the first lead of the game in the first inning. Amanda Brown reached base on a walk and was moved over by Laura Davis' single to right field. An illegal pitch and a past ball moved the first run across the plate. The second run was scored by a sacrifice fly by Channika Gant. The score moving into the sixth was 2-0.
Southern Miss put up back to back homeruns in the sixth inning by Kenya Peters and Heather Bell, making the score 4-0 Golden Eagles. They scored another run on a solo homer by Sarah Boyd in the top of the seventh. The Golden Eagles scored three more in the inning to solidify the shutout.
Jenilee Skender knocked in the two runs for the Cougars with her homerun at the end of the game. Ali McDougall was also scored by Skender after getting on with a single.
The pitcher for the Cougars today was Jenny Johnson. She falls to 7-6 for the season while the team's record is 2-4 in C-USA and 22-12 overall. The Cougars finish with three hits versus. The Cougars will face Texas A&M in a single night game on Wednesday, March 13, 2002.
